Macy’s retail is an iconic American experience, and recreating that magic online takes the best of the best across all technology fields.

When our customer walks into a store, all the information she needs on the product is at her fingertips. When she goes to, our merchandise is turned into pages and widgets. It’s our job to provide the same excellent customer experience, regardless of where and how our customer is shopping—then use our data and the most innovative e-commerce technology to enhance that experience.

Shopping online and shopping in-store may always be a little different—but the customer experience has to be seamless, and with the same ultimate goal: a happy customer with a full shopping cart!

Women STEM

Women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) careers earn 33 percent more than those in non-STEM occupations and experience a smaller wage gap relative to men. That’s a big step in the right direction!

But there’s still a problem: the numbers on women choosing to obtain degrees in Technology and Engineering are disappointing. Fewer female students in these fields means fewer in the workforce, and fewer in leadership positions.

But Macy’s is different. Women represent more than 75% of the Macy’s, Inc. workforce—and more than 65% of management-level executives. And we have a long-standing history of doing so; Margaret Getchell was the first woman to be promoted to a Macy’s executive position back in 1865.

We work every day to make Macy’s an inclusive business—not just for our customers, but our associates as well. That includes women in technology. Our Macy’s Technology team is a prime example of what women in STEM can achieve.
