Our Culture Defines Our Brand

We’re inspired by our surroundings, and that inspiration shows in our work—inside and outside of the office. Our culture is formed by who we are, what we do, and why we do it—as individuals and as a team.

Social Responsibility

Macy’s thinks well above the bottom line about our impact on the environment and the people inhabiting it.

  • That’s why we’re proud to be named one of Newsweek Magazine’s 500 Greenest Companies in America.
  • That’s also why we take accountability for our product sourcing, calling for a strict code of ethics with suppliers.

As a Fortune 200 company, we understand we have power to make a positive impact. Head over to Macy’s Coast to Coast to see all things Macy’s and sustainability. And check out our Report on Social Responsibility to learn more.

Community Involvement

We all want to do more for our community. But let’s be honest—so often work and life gets in the way of helping others. When you work at Macy’s Technology, you don’t have to choose one over the other. Opportunities to get involved with your community are everywhere you look.

From funding for arts and education, HIV/AIDS research and awareness, and women’s issues to supporting associate giving and volunteerism—we know these issues are important to the communities of our customers and employees. That makes them important to us.

We know that to appeal to our multicultural marketplace, we have to be a diverse workforce. Our different backgrounds and unique perspectives allow us to challenge and inspire each other; it’s how we learn and grow.

The bottom line on Macy’s diversity:

  • Women represent more than 75% of the Macy’s, Inc. workforce and approximately 64% of management-level executives.
  • Ethnic minorities represent more than 59% of our associate team and 36% of our management team.
  • In 2015, Macy’s purchases from minority- and women-owned businesses topped $1.1 billion.
  • We also scored a perfect 100 on the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index and were recognized as a best place to work for LGBT equality.
  • Hispanic Business ranked us in the top 10 of their Diversity Elite list for our commitment to Hispanic hiring, promotion, marketing, philanthropy, and supplier diversity.
