Job Overview:
The Manager of Product Management is a strategic thought leader playing a key role in developing the multi-year product management roadmap for associate and customer-facing digital experiences in our stores (for both Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s). The Stores Domain is focused on addressing pain points in store and to increase average value per visit, improve NPS and increase associate efficiency. Strong candidates should possess a proven track record of leading and developing teams, working and influencing in a cross-functional context, and using data to drive decision-making. The Manager, Product Management will oversee the work velocity and quality as well as the career growth of 3 to 6 direct reports, and will draw on his/her experience to build relationships and maximize the output of his/her team. This position reports to the Director of Product Management, Mobile App & Stores Domain.
Essential Functions:
The Manager of Product Management’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Digital Product Capability Oversight
• Serve as a leading voice of the customer (whether consumer or associate) and act as an experience advocate in considering product decisions that will impact the customer across all selling channels and touch points
• Constantly question and clarify the implications of all product decisions and ensure that critical business issues are surfaced and considered across the enterprise
• Champion a point-of-view to leadership regarding the relative importance of various initiatives that are ready to move to the development phase
• Assist the team with data-driven decision making: define appropriate success metrics, be instrumented to measure, gather & analyze data, and report out / socialize takeaways
• Ensure that product specifications meet high standards and business goals for quality before approval and launch
• Guide product managers to ensure the product specifications are well understood by engineering. Support team members as they provide product requirements clarification and reply to implementation considerations raised by the development team
• Help the team maintain an effective partnership with UX to define and visualize ideas and design, build, test and refine solutions
• Propel maturity of the team/domain forward contributing to improved practices & tools (for financial modelling, onboarding, etc)
People Leadership
• Actively coach Product Managers to learn and advance in their abilities to perform the spectrum of Product Management activities/deliverables
• Help the Product Managers, and their project teams, successfully adopt Macy’s agile practices
• Provide leadership presence and offer support as needed to the larger pool of Product Managers based in Lorain beyond your immediate direct reports.  Cultivate PdM identity and community on-site
• Develop, lead and inspire Product Managers each responsible for defining and delivering product capability roadmaps & feature sets
• Collaborate with and influence engineering and program peers to ensure connected and aligned roadmap and delivery strategy
• Create and foster career development and growth paths for team members in alignment with company, product and personal objectives
• Create clear and measurable goals and objectives for the team related to the creation and enhancement of timely, high-quality products that support critical business objectives, requirements change management, and partnership with cross-functional teams
• Raise awareness of team’s plans, insights and accomplishments in order to facilitate cooperation across departments and to build a highly performing, highly motivated team
• Assist direct reports with ongoing prioritization and resource allocation to ensure that the crucial business initiatives are delivered
• Hiring, retention, and succession planning
Executive Stakeholder Management:
• Ability to prepare and present meaningful executive level updates
• Support senior leadership as the single point of contact for managed initiatives and champion a strong pov for customer experience improvement
• Lead teams in partnering with key business stakeholders, 3rd party vendors and strategy team members to develop clear and complete opportunity assessments and business requirements and present to senior management the information necessary to make informed approval, prioritization and tradeoff decisions
• Ensure that all relevant parties and key stakeholders are informed of product status from concept through launch
• Develop and maintain relationships with key business owners and senior management
• 5 -7 years of experience in product management; management consulting experience a plus 
• 3-5 years of experience managing direct reports
• Retail experience highly desirable
• Usability and customer-focused design experience a plus
Communication Skills:
• Superior communication skills with ability to communicate complex and detailed information in a consumable format
Reasoning Ability:
• Strong analytical, prioritization and negotiating skills
Other Skills:
• Passionate about building great products and solving customer and business problems
• Effective at close partnership and collaboration with engineering and program peers
• Internet, Returns/Order management, and Fulfillment understanding and product roadmap experience preferred
Work Hours:
• Some travel will be required
